The beginning of May was marked by the 5th annual conference of Global M&A partners, dedicated to Market Prospects of M&A Companies in the Mid-segment. Sokrat Group, the exclusive representative of Global M&A in Ukraine, was represented by Director of Investment and Banking Vladislav Ostapenko.
The conference schedule included speeches from representatives of Global M&A, international financial corporations, investment banks and funds. During the conference, the following topics were covered: the influence of the sub-prime crisis on the market of mergers and acquisitions, tendencies and development prospects for the M&A market and international experience in mergers and acquisitions transactions in different spheres of the economy.
Also announced were the results of an international marketing survey, conducted by Global M&A in cooperation with Mergermarket in May of 2008. The survey showed that Eastern Europe takes the 3rd place among the five most attractive emerging markets for M&A. The most attractive sectors in 2008 for M&A transactions involving medium-sized companies were energy and power generation companies, followed by food processing and agriculture companies. As for the international M&A transactions, the forecast is positive for the next 12 months. According to statistical evidence taken from M&A transactions for medium-sized companies in the first quarter of 2008, the leading spheres were: telecommunications (20%), the industrial sector (19%), the consumer sector (18%), business services (11%), mining and power generation (9%) and the pharmaceutical sector (8%).
